Program Note:
A romantic melody is heard a total of six times. There are three new counterpoints that appear, each harmonized independently only later to combine with the original melody in a duet that works with the original harmonization. This creates an ever unfolding, ever increasing feeling culminating in everyone playing together the biggest statement of the theme near the end. Much of my other music has angular features; this concentrates on a rich, flowing sound. The Kiss was commissioned by the California Band Directors Association for their 50th anniversary, and written in 2006.
